You will be offered a follow-up session if you are diagnosed and would like to commence medication treatment. The titration period consists of starting medication until reaching a stable and maintenance dose of the chosen medication.
You will commence one of the first-line treatment options as per NICE guidelines. We will start with a low dose to make sure you adjust to the medication; the lowest dose may work for some patients, but higher doses may be required on some occasions. It usually takes 3-4 appointments to establish a therapeutic dose. Therapeutic dose means the most effective dose which gives you the least side effects.
On some occasions, the first-line treatment may not be effective, and alternative medications may need to be trialled. Therefore, we may need more than 4 appointments to establish the right medication at the right dose.
